PhD position in mechanical engineering at Northern Illinois University (NIU). 

NIU is located at Dekalb, IL, which is about 75 mins driving distance to 

Chicago. Dr. Tan's group has access to excellent high performance computational 

facilities both at NIU and Argonne national laboratory through close 

collaborations. 





Project: Multiscale modeling and machine learning of clot mechanics</b>



Qualifications:



1.        a master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field is 

preferred. however, students with a bachelor's degree are also encouraged to 

apply.

2.        strong background solid/fluid mechanics, and mathematics.

3.        excellent programming skills (e.g., matlab, python, c++).

4.        interest in computational mechanics, computational fluid dynamics, and 

biomedical engineering.

5.        strong written and verbal communication skills.

6.        ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research 

team



Financial support:



The selected PhD candidate will receive a competitive stipend ($2,050/month), 

tuition remission as part of their funding package. This position also offers 

opportunities for travel to conferences and research-related events.
