Summary / Role Purpose The R&D Engineer II contributes to the development of software products and supporting systems. In this role, the R&D Engineer II will collaborate with a team of expert professionals to understand customer requirements and accomplish development objectives. Key Duties and Responsibilities Performs moderately complex development activities, including the design, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation of software modules and sub-systems Understands and employs best practices Performs moderately complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products. Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions Understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues Works under the general supervision of a development manager Write software code to provide new features within the existing ANSYS Fluent adjoint solver environment using the C and C++ programming languages, and help maintain existing features; develop a suitable graphical/text user-interface as needed Ensure robustness and reliability of the adjoint solver Contribute to technologies such as gradient-based optimization, multi-objective design, mesh morphing, topology optimization, and goal-based mesh adaption Pursue research in new applications of adjoint methods for industrial problems Develop unit tests to verify code implementation, and develop regression tests for new features Develop documentation as needed Communicate with ANSYS Support & Services staff, and ANSYS clients, to provide education and guidance on adjoint technologies and their applications Participate in planning of development and research activities Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience BS in applied mathematics, mechanical/aerospace engineering, or related field with 2 years’ experience or MS Working experience with continuous or discrete adjoint methods in fluid dynamics, flow solver algorithms and discretization schemes, parallel computing, and the associated numerical analysis, C++ and C and object-oriented programming, and design optimization methods Preferred Qualifications and Skills Ph.D. in applied mathematics, mechanical/aerospace engineering or related discipline with a focus on discrete adjoint methods in computation fluid dynamics (CFD) is preferred. Technical knowledge and experience with automatic differentiation methods, gradient-based optimization, multi-objective design, mesh morphing, topology optimization, goal-based mesh adaption, and finite volume flow solver Publications in the field (published or pending publication) desired. Experience in a large-scale commercial software development environment Good communication and interpersonal skills Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team |
