Title | PhD Scholarship in Modeling of Turbulent pipe flows with swirl |
Category | PhD Studentship |
Employer | University of Southampton Malaysia |
Location | Malaysia, Johor |
International | Yes, international applications are welcome |
Closure Date | Monday, May 01, 2023 |
Description: |
Wall-bounded swirling flows tend to promote a stabilizing effect and delay the
transition to turbulence. The stabilizing mechanism associated with the swirling
flow has been studied to a limited extent so far. This project will use
numerical simulations to understand the role of swirling flows in wall-bounded
turbulent flows and the associated instability mechanism. The results will be
validated with the experimental data to a certain extent. The student will
develop, implement, and validate a suite of models of varying geometries and
flow conditions to generate the flow systems of interest.
Preferred Qualifications:
1) A master's degree in aeronautical/aerospace/mechanical/energy engineering, or
related engineering subjects.
2) Experience in fluid mechanics/CFD modeling (This is an advantage but not
necessary)
3) Proficient in at least one of the programming languages:
C/C++/Fortran/Matlab.
The research project is based fully at the Malaysia Campus (UoSM). Qualified
candidates are encouraged to contact the PI, Dr. Foo Kok, at fk1a15@soton.ac.uk
with their CV, unofficial transcripts, and 1‑page research statement that
briefly discusses their research interests and experience.
Please note due to the large volume of incoming applications, only those
selected for further consideration will be contacted.
