TitleComputational Physicist
CategoryJob in Industry
EmployerSpar Systems
LocationUnited States
InternationalNo, only national applications will be considered
Closure Date* None *
Description:
Spar Systems is developing a revolutionary technology for generating power from
low-temperature waste heat. Data centers, with their large energy consumption
and low-temperature thermal waste, are the primary beachhead market. We estimate
potential impact of millions of metric tons of CO2 abatement and 100s of
terawatt-hours of energy savings through this technology. We have received a
Department of Energy grant to develop this patented technology to commercial
readiness. We also have an active partnership with a National Lab and recently
closed our first round of pre-seed financing.

We are looking for leading engineers to join our team and accelerate the
development and commercialization of this technology. This role is for the Lead
Computational Physicist.

You will be responsible for analytical and numerical analyses of concept
designs. You will use deep knowledge of mechanical physics, especially fluids,
turbomachines and aerodynamics to rapidly analyze designs and develop
performance estimates. You will also develop and run computational models,
primarily CFD, to test concepts and optimize them. A combination of systematic
thinking, engineering tinkering, imagination and pragmatic decision making is
necessary. Being able to quickly learn new skills and expand your capabilities
is a must. But above all, having a natural intuition for solving technical
problems is the core skill requirement.

Specific skills expected, though not required, include: CAD modeling, CFD,
general numerical analysis, multiphysics modeling, product engineering and
hardware commercialization. Advanced training in mathematical sciences is
expected for this position, such as a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Applied
Physics or related fields. Equivalently, for non-PhD candidates, a track record
of advanced work and original contributions (papers, patents) in relevant fields
will be highly valued. You will have access to the full suite of Siemens CAE
tools including STAR-CCM+, Simcenter 3D, Amesim, NX etc.

You will get early equity in the company, with potential for founder level
impact. Selected candidates will be those who we see as part of our mission for
the next 5-10 years.

Position can be potentially remote, but candidates located in the greater NYC
area (within 1.5 hours of NYC) will be preferred.
