Senior/Principal Consultant – Thermofluids Norton Straw is a leading provider of specialist engineering simulation, design, and consultancy support to clients across many industries – including Aerospace, Automotive, Energy, Built Environment and Chemical Process – in the UK and internationally. Our technical work covers everything from using experience judgement and simple hand calculations, system level 1D modelling to detailed component level 2D/3D simulations; always mindful of the need to use the appropriate level of analysis fidelity to produce practical solutions for our clients. As a part of our team, you will play a central role in providing our clients with, design support and verification services, operational troubleshooting, and technical safety assessments. Thanks to sustained growth in demand for our gas turbine and aerospace services, we are looking to recruit engineers with the experience of carrying out system and component level thermofluids and heat transfer analyses to support the further development of our inhouse capability. The position is in either of our Derby/Bristol/Cambridge office. We are looking for people who: • Have a bachelor’s degree (grade 2.1 or above), Masters or PhD or in a relevant engineering, science or applied mathematics discipline. Preferably with a strong CFD or thermofluids component. • Have experience delivering engineering analysis of aero/industrial gas turbine systems in a consultancy setting or a gas turbine design environment and an interest in supporting the development of junior team members. • Have strong technical knowledge and experience in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and heat transfer, with an awareness of gas turbine secondary air, oil and fuel systems. • Ideally have experience with themofluids analysis tools such as SPAN, SCO3, Amesim, Flomaster, Fluent, STAR-CCM+, NPSS and able to extend their capability using user functions where necessary. • Are proficient in the use of programming language such as Python, VBA and C++ • Have excellent project management and verbal/written communication skills. • Ideally be a Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) or actively working towards chartership status. • Like a challenge, are flexible thinkers and aren’t intimidated by unfamiliar problems. • Enjoy client and colleague interaction and taking responsibility and wants the opportunity to work within a growing and dynamic engineering team.
