The Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology is a leading research 
institute in the field of aerodynamics/aeroacoustics of airplanes and 
aerothermodynamics of space vehicles.

The C²A²S²E department develops numerical methods for multidisciplinary 
simulation and optimization of air vehicles. In addition to physical modeling of
complex flows and the development of modern numerical algorithms, our research activities
 cover the software-based integration of all relevant disciplines, the development
 of efficient optimization strategies as well as surrogate modeling 
based on higher fidelity methods.

The candidate will be responsible for the development and implementation of the 
Volume-of-Fluid method to predict liquid sloshing within aircraft fuel tanks and provide estimates of load distributions for design purposes. 
This method needs to be implemented into a coupled, incompressible solver considering pressure-
density-temperature coupling within the CFD-Code CODA, jointly developed by DLR, ONERA and Airbus.
For validation, experimental and analytical data will be available, as well as
reference data from computations using the legacy DLR CFD-code. The application covers basic, generic testcases as well as realistic tank 
geometries with the objective of providing best-practice guidelines for the 
numerical simulation of multi-phase fuel-sloshing flows in tanks.

Your qualifications:

    *University degree (Master(Diploma) in engineering (aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent) or science (mathematics, physics, or equivalent)
    *PhD in the field of Engineering/Science or 2-3 years of relevant industry experience
    *expertise and experience in the field of numerical fluid mechanics
    *expertise and experience in the field of multi-phase flow considering phase boundaries and phase change
    *substantial knowledge in advanced programming languages (Python, C++), experience in software development in a team is preferred.
    *strong teamwork and results-oriented working skills
    *very good oral and written communication skills in English, German skills are a plus
