Concentration Heat and Momentum Limited (CHAM) is seeking a Consultancy Engineer with Business-Generation experience to join its highly-qualified technical team based in Wimbledon, London (

CHAM’s general-purpose commercial CFD Software (PHOENICS) was created by Brian Spalding (founding father of CFD), and his team. CHAM, and PHOENICS, offer innovative, reliable and cost effective solutions to engineering and environmental problems which face the world today. We strive, always, to enable our broad range of commercial, R&D, and academic, clients to respond effectively, efficiently, innovatively, and quickly to environmental and engineering problems involving fluid flow, heat transfer, combustion, and chemical reaction processes whether they use our software directly or avail themselves of our Consultancy expertise.


CHAM seeks an enthusiastic, experienced, customer- and results-focussed Engineer to bring an additional skill-set to, and collaborate with, our inclusive team. Our Consultancy Engineer will be a quick learner who is positive about the challenge of working in a small company, generating consultancy projects in the current environment, interacting with colleagues in Product Development, User Support, and Marketing; and being exposed to, and involved in, a broad range of technical, sales, and client-facing, activities.

We are looking for someone with a strong interest in, passion for, and knowledge of, CFD who will have enjoyed helping others solve problems using this knowledge within a commercial environment; and who is looking for new challenges interacting with new clients and colleagues and sharing knowledge and experiences.

Whilst the position involves multitasking, the main task is outward facing and pro-active. It involves business development, using PHOENICS and other CHAM products, to generate and undertake Consultancy projects for clients with varied needs who seek expert help to realize and test their ideas and bring viable products to market.

Challenges and Responsibilities

• Using technical expertise, interpersonal skills and best practices to obtain, and carry out, consultancy projects for Clients worldwide.

• Understanding what is needed to market products and services offered and collaborating with marketing colleagues to facilitate this.

• Working with our Sales Manager to provide potential clients with technical, costed, specifications/quotations.

• Interacting with clients re project completion, writing final reports supporting results obtained, filing reports/
related models on the CHAM system for easy retrieval/ reference, recording time taken and hours charged.

• Interacting with CHAM technical staff to benefit from their extensive experience of CFD and PHOENICS to devise the optimum way to perform consultancy projects. Company-wide communication and collaboration are crucial.

• Documenting all aspects of work undertaken to a high literary, and visual, standard.

• Performing all tasks in to commercially acceptable standards and within prescribed time frames.
Necessary Qualifications:

• Good BSc (minimum) or MSc in CFD, Mechanical, Aeronautical or other related Engineering fields.

• Significant knowledge of, and experience with, the wider field of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

• Meaningful knowledge and hands-on experience of CFD software. Knowing PHOENICS would be ideal; if not,
other mainstream CFD-code experience is essential.

• Current legal right to work in the UK without restriction.
Desirable Qualifications:

• Previous experience of CFD Consultancy projects with a team of Engineers in a commercial environment.

• Flexibility, proactivity and resourcefulness, plus excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to perform multiple tasks, to prioritise and record work, and to keep senior staff informed.

• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) including experience with Word and Excel and the ability to
create reports to a professional standard.

• Ability, and desire, to work in a small, collaborative, team environment.

• Experience with Project Management Software and the ability to work within such requirements.
