Applications are invited for Postdoctoral Fellow positions in building ventilation. 
The successful applicants will be part of an active research team led by Prof. Dr. 
Zhengtao Ai (Ventilation towards healthy buildings) and Prof. Dr. Guoqiang Zhang 
(Ventilation towards zero-energy buildings), who are both full professor at the 
Department of Building Environment and Energy, Hunan University, Changsha, China. 
Depending on the topic, successful applicants will also work closely with reputable 
building ventilation teams from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, University of 
Hong Kong, Aalborg University, Technical University of Denmark, and Sherbrooke 
University.
Hunan University (HNU) is situated at the foot of the picturesque Yuelu Mountain, a 
National 5A tourist attraction in the historically and culturally renowned City of 
Changsha, capital of Hunan Province. It was selected as the most poetic and 
picturesque university by journal Cultural Geography, and is among the premier 
universities supported by the state's investment of “211 Project”, “ 985 Project 
” and “Double First Class University Plan”. Hunan University, dating back to 
Yuelu Academy founded in 976 A.D. during the Song Dynasty, is reputed as “A well-
known Millenarian Academy and a Famous Centennial University". Carrying on the good 
educational tradition formed over the past 1,000-odd years, it now has Graduate 
school and 25 colleges, offering programs in 11 fields. Fourteen programs are 
national key disciplines (second-tier) and there are also 28 post-doctoral research 
centers. Seven disciplines rank among top 1% on the ESI rankings, among which 
engineering science and chemistry rank among top 1‰. The university has a faculty

Job Description:
The successful candidates will mainly work on one of the following topics:
(1) Mitigation of transmission of infectious diseases in the indoor environment, 
(2) Source control of viruses laden droplets/nuclei from high-risk processes in 
hospital,
(3) Smart control of human micro-environment, 
(4) Energy efficient ventilation of buildings, and 
(5) Energy efficient ventilation of underground spaces.

Qualifications
(1) A PhD degree (or near completed) in building/architectural technology, 
mechanical engineering, microbiology, public health, epidemiology, etc.; 
(2) Ability to perform independent research and a commitment to interdisciplinary 
research;
(3) Excellent written and verbal communication skills (Chinese or English), 
demonstrated by presentation of research results at conferences and through 
publications;
(4) Excellent numerical/experimental skills (CFD, Chamber experiment…)
(5) The applicants shall be under 35 years old with good healthy condition.
(6) Experiences in building ventilation, urban ventilation, indoor air quality, 
human exposure, building energy saving, passive building technologies, healthy 
buildings, zero-energy buildings are desired but not required.

Salary package
The salary and benefits are internationally competitive and commensurate with 
each candidate's experience.
(1) Basic salary is RMB230K/year, plus extra bonus depending on achievements; 
(2) House renting allowance (RMB1.8K/month, equivalent to nearly 50 m2);
(2) Foreign passport (some) holder could apply for tax exemption;
(3) Medical insurance package, pension and other staff benefits;

Principal investigators of the group
Dr. Zhengtao Ai is currently a professor of building environment at Hunan 
University, China. He was previously a Marie Curie researcher at the International 
Center for Indoor Environment and Energy, Technical University of Denmark. He did 
his Postdoc and received his PhD degree at the Department of Building Services 
Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has been studying ventilation 
of high-rise buildings, airborne transmission in building environments, and 
transmission of infectious diseases from high-risk processes in hospital for 10 
years. He has involved as PI, Co-I and main researcher in over 10 research projects 
from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Denmark and European Union. He has published over 70 
scientific documents in English, including over 40 international SCI-indexed journal 
papers and 30 conference papers. He has given 16 invited lectures in universities 
and conferences.

Dr. Guoqiang Zhang is currently a professor of civil engineering and architecture at 
Hunan University, China. He is now the Dean of Institute for Sustainable 
Urbanization and Construction Innovation, Hunan University, the director of the 
National Center for International Research Collaboration in Building Safety and 
Environment of Ministry of Science and Technology of China. He is now vice president 
of International Association of Indoor Quality, Ventilation and Energy Conservation 
in Buildings. Dr. Zhang’ research interests are green building design method, and 
energy conservation and sustainable energy. He has been the PI or China side PI of 6 
international cooperation research projects, 8 national research projects. he has 
won 7 provincial level awards and 40 authorized Chinese patents. He is also 
responsible or participates in the writing of 9 national and provincial technical 
standards. He published over 110 international journal papers, 10 papers were 
awarded as excellent paper.
