The successful candidate with experimental background is expected to have hands-on familiarity with laser- based diagnostic techniques such as Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), Planar Laser-Induced Fluorescence (PLIF) and/or Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV). Experience with x-ray imaging is a plus but not required. Candidates with background in CFD and ability to program in C, C++ are also encouraged to apply. Familiarity with lattice-Boltzmann method and/or OpenFOAM and experience with high performance computing and MPI is a plus. The projects involve investigation of mixing of miscible fluids with disparate viscosity using PIV and PLIF measurements, rheological measurements and analysis of high-density foam flow, and investigation of fiber suspension in non-Newtonian and multiphase flows. The successful candidate is expected to have strong verbal and written communication skills, work effectively with a team of faculty, postdocs and graduate students on multiple projects, interact and supervise undergraduate students, participate in some teaching duties and other academic activities. The duties also include writing progress reports, publishing results in journal articles, conference presentations and participating in preparation of workplans and proposals. Candidates must hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with focus on fluid dynamics. Interested candidates are encouraged to submit a complete application (including curriculum vitae, a cover letter, a summary of previous research experience, a list of publications, and three references) to Professor Cyrus Aidun (cyrus.aidun[at]me.gatech.edu).
