Description:
The specific task of the position will be thermo-flow analysis (CFD) of the wet combustion chamber, burning gasification gas (syn-gas) in oxy-combustion. Combustion with pure O2 requires cooling. Water will be injected through the walls, evaporate and mix with the combustion gases. Important aspects of the study will be the spatial distribution of water to satisfy cooling requirements, the behaviour of the boundary layer, heat transfer from flame to wall (including radiation). The effects of added water on the chemical reactions will be an important issue. Furthermore, local contributions to entropy generation (exergy degradation) due to the mixing of water will be estimated. Conventional CFD tools will be used, either commercial (e.g. Ansys Fluent) or open source (e.g. OpenFoam).
