Description:

Laboratory of Turbulence, Sensing and Intelligence System of Mechanical Engineering is a part of NASA MIRO 
Center for Advanced Measurements in Extreme Environments (CAMEE) in the University of Texas at San 
Antonio. The Center focuses on increasing the research/education capacity at UTSA in areas related to NASA 
research priorities. The Center is a collaborative initiative between College of Sciences and College of 
Engineering at UTSA, with collaboration from University of California, Los Angeles, University of Colorado, 
Boulder, and NASA Laboratories (JPL, GSFC, and Langley) with interdisciplinary expertise in areas of remote 
sensing, hypersonic measurements, atmospheric and oceanic measurements and modelling, sea-ice and 
Turbulence

Immediate MS/Ph.D. positions in Mechanical Engineering are available for highly motivated students in the  areas of Turbulence simulations. The project deals with LES simulations of buoyant plumes released in the  atmosphere. The candidate should have excellent knowledge of programming in F90, C, C++, python.  The  project involves using Weather Research Forecast model coupled with LES to understand fundamental 
turbulence processes for buoyant plumes. The applications include fire plume, volcano plumes, chemical 
plumes. An ideal candidate should have excellent skills in programming, good math background, analysis 
skills, have good writing skills.  

Undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Applied Math, Aerospace Engineering or related 
areas is preferred. 

Fully funded Ph.D. and MS Graduate student positions are available. The students need to send full
