Description: The Bioengineering and Surgical Research Group at Departments of Surgery and Bioengineering of the University of Maryland School of Medicine/University of Maryland College Park seeks applicants for a full-time post-doctoral research fellow position. The research projects in the group involve bioengineering and translational sciences aimed at development of artificial organs, circulatory assist devices, and artificial lungs as well as basic sciences related to biologic responses of human and animal to the use of these devices from molecular level to whole organ level. The research activities are carried within a multidisciplinary research and design team consisting of engineers, scientists, clinicians, surgeons, residents, and students. The successful candidate will use contemporary computer modeling packages and tools to develop and simulate blood flows and physical forces on blood cells in blood wetted medical devices. Qualifications: The applicants are expected to have a PhD in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering or mechanical engineering or applied mathematics or related fields. We are interested in individuals from the areas of computational fluid dynamics, blood flow dynamics, mathematical modeling, computational/numerical methods, and computer simulation/visualization techniques. The experience with linking fluid dynamics to blood damage (hemolysis, platelet activation and thrombosis) and using Ansys Fluent/CFX for simulation of fluid flow will be plus. The ideal candidates will have strong leadership skills and contribute to the rapidly growing bioengineering research at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. It is expected that over the course of this position the candidate will contribute both to peer-reviewed scientific publications and portfolio of intellectual property. The position is immediately available. This postdoctoral assignment is intended to last for 2 years, with the possibility to extend for a third year.
