The School for Marine Science and Technology at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites 
applications from qualified students to our Masters and Ph.D. programs to work on problems relating to 
intermediate and long-time evolution of turbulent wakes in the ocean.  Specific project areas include 
state-of-the-art numerical modeling of stratified turbulent wakes in the presence of rotation, with 
emphasis on understanding the wake energetics of towed and self-propelled bodies.  The ideal candidate 
will have significant education/experience in applied math and/or physics, with additional experience in 
numerical modeling preferred.



A minimum of a Bachelors degree in oceanography, physics, applied mathematics, engineering or closely 
related field is required, with a Masters degree in one of these fields preferred.  Applicants should have 
strong mathematical and computer skills with some background in physical and/or earth sciences. Review

immediately, with full-time enrollment beginning no later than Fall 2020 expected. Depending on level of 
qualifications, successful applicants will be eligible for financial support in the form of tuition and/or fee
