The guy I knew who did the best job integrated the local velocities,
dx = u*dt dy = v*dt. This technically, gives streak lines. It has the advantage that it works in 3 dimensions, and for compressible unsteady flow. Streak lines also work when your mass conservation statement includes sources and sinks of mass. |

I guess you have to integrate the velocity components in your code, include it in the tecplot data file (under some variable name) and then simply plot it in tecplot

hi. I thik you can use below fromula. we have: DQ=dQ/dx*Dx + DQ/dyDy also: dQ/dx=-v and dQ/dy=u then we have: DQ=-vdx+udy if you integrate from this eq. Q will be obtained. ofcoure, i this formula the typs of interpolation for u and v is importanat

Thanks all for you kind response,
I Know what does stream function stand for. My question was whether tecplot is capable of drawing stream function from u and v. Stream functions are automatically calculated and made ready whith the postprocessors of FIDAP, Fluent, etc. tecplot provides streamtraces only. I suspect that tecplot guys would like us to buy their adds-in CFD analyser. |

In 2-D, it's very easy to compute stream function, even my postpro code also has this function. So I think TECPLOT guys don't need to spend any money on it, they just need to sit down in front of the computer and add this feature.

Do you solve the Poisson equation? How would you define the boundary conditions for the "streamline function" if the domain is multi-connected? You still need a sort of integration, right? The streamtrace in Tecplot is much more general, and works in both 2D and 3D.

Dear Sir
My name is Hussam Ali Khalaf, postgraduate student in Iraq and Am currently working on “A Solution Algorithm for Transient Fluid Flow with Multiple Free Boundaries” I have results for velocities values (u and v) in directions x and y for undular bore evolution (please, note the file attachment), rectangular uniform mesh (2Dimension, (i,j)=(22,10)) consists of 20 cells in the horizontal direction (length=12 , ∆x=0.6) and 8 cells in the vertical direction (height=1.6, ∆y=0.2). Am supposed to draw velocity vector, streamline and stream function. I have a program TecPLOT, I have tried several times but I don’t fully understand how TecPLOT reads the results, would you please help me if you have any idea on how to go about it.
