Invisible Slice in Tecplot

Hello all,
I am attempting to take streamtraces on a slice of fluid volume. I have first placed a slice at the desired location, however the slice is completely invisible. I can see the slice when placing it with the slicing tool, but as soon as I release the mouse it disappears. I know the slice was placed, because I can see the mesh and edges on this plane when the option is enabled in the slice details window. Also, when placing the streamtraces, I get an error: "not all points along the rake were within the data field". This makes me think the slice is not "active" on some level. Also, I have tried extracting the slice to make it a zone but this doesn't help. I haven't included any pictures because I didn't think they would be particularly useful for this problem, however I can show any images or settings needed. Thanks in advance! |

Hello Christian, I'm thinking of two options:
1. your view is directly parallel with the slicing plane. 2. the "Slice through:" criteria is set to "Surface of Volume Zones" and not "Volume Zones" Is it possible to share a layout of your data with support@tecplot.com? It might make sense for them to also do a screenshare with you. Best, Brandon |

After setting the slice to "Volume Zones", I attempted to extract the slice and got an error message: "No slices pass through the current set of active zones based on their slice settings". Yes, a screenshare fix seems the best (and fastest option. |

Okay, it seems like the data you loaded into Tecplot 360 may not be volume data--it might only be a surface grid.

I see.... well the way I loaded it is as follows: From ANSYS Fluent (the "Solution" module) I use the "Export Solution Data" option, and export all the variables as a Tecplot file. Then I opened Tecplot and used the "load data" option, and chose the exported file ( a .lay file). How can I load the data such that the volume is loaded as well?

I think it would have to do with export options in Fluent. I'm surprised it having you load the data as a .lay (a layout file) and not a .plt or .szplt data file. I think a screenshare could probably clear this up.

Here is the export window in Fluent.
