Hi everyone,

Is it possible to redefine/modify the markers of an .su2 mesh directly from SU2 without a mesh generator? Say I have an airfoil where the surface markers for upper and lower surfaces are labeled as "airfoil" but I want to split them between "upper" and "lower" and perhaps define a region of the surface nodes to add a new marker to add a different boundary condition?

Sure, you can do that, but the .su2 mesh is basically a punch of coordinates and a bunch of connectivity information. So you have to know which of the lines and faces belong to the top and which to the bottom. For instance, a 2D mesh containing an airfoil looks like this in the .su2 file:
NMARK= 3
MARKER_TAG= airfoil
MARKER_ELEMS= 19
3 3 98
3 98 99
3 99 100
3 100 101
3 101 102
3 102 103
3 103 104
3 104 105
3 105 106
3 106 107
...
So you need to know if the line segment connecting points 3-98 are on the upper part or the lower part of the airfoil. but if you know that it splits at point 100, you can just increase the number of markers and split it:

NMARK= 4
MARKER_TAG= airfoil_top
MARKER_ELEMS= 3
3 3 98
3 98 99
3 99 100

MARKER_TAG= airfoil_bottom
MARKER_ELEMS= 16

3 100 101
3 101 102
3 102 103
3 103 104
3 104 105
3 105 106
3 106 107
...

But it's better to have the mesh available in e.g. gmsh.
