Shape Optimization : Thickness constraint sensitivity

Hello
I am doing a design space exploration study for supercritical airfoils, using SU2. I used the RAE2822 tutorial as a starting point to understand the basic functioning of the optimization framework. However, when using user-defined mesh, the thickness constraint sensitivities have a reversed sign. I created multiple meshes and the results are the same. I know that the thickness sensitivities are computed using FFD and this should be straight forward but for some reason, it is not. The negative gradients indicate that the thickness would decrease with the increase in the size of the HH bumps, which is clearly incorrect. I believe this might be an issue with the way my mesh nodes are indexed. All meshes are created using Pointwise. Parameters such as airfoil LE radius, TOC, thickness and Chord length are all in agreement. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you |
