Hi all,

I could finally find enough time to start using SU2, and i gotta say it looks really awesome. Congratulation to all the team, the possibilities are pretty amazing. These adjoint optimizations are very impressive.

I have one question regarding optimization. There are heaps of example on shape optimization, but I wanted to know if it would be doable to optimize another parameter, more specifically the motion of an airfoil. For instance if we consider a pitch and plunge motion, is it possible to optimize the motion parameters, amplitude and phase, to get the maximum thrust with that flapping motion.

Some testCases files contain the following:

% List of design variables (Design variables are separated by semicolons)
% From 1 to 99, Geometrycal design variables.
% - HICKS_HENNE ( 1, Scale | Mark. List | Lower(0)/Upper(1) side, x_Loc )
% - NACA_4DIGITS ( 4, Scale | Mark. List | 1st digit, 2nd digit, 3rd and 4th digit )
% - ROTATION ( 6, Scale | Mark. List | x_Axis, y_Axis, z_Axis, x_Turn, y_Turn, z_Turn )
% From 100 to 199, Flow solver design variables.
% - MACH_NUMBER ( 101, Scale | Markers List )
% - AOA ( 102, Scale | Markers List )

which shows that it should be doable to do at least AoA optimization. There are some forum threads out there asking about this AoA optimization with not much answer. Do you think it is feasible at this stage ?

Thanks a lot for your help, and keep up the great work !
