How are aerodynamic coefficients computed in SU2?

Hello!
I am solving for axisymmetric flow using 2D grid with four boundaries: inflow, outflow, wall and symmetry. 'history.csv' file is being read to find the lift and drag coefficient for the wall boundary. I also extracted the pressure and grid points from 'flow.vtk' and manually computed the drag coefficient value. What I have concluded is that the drag value mentioned in 'history.csv' is actually for the 2D planar body even though the flow solved is axisymmetric. Has anybody else tried it? I want to confirm that this is in fact the case. Thank you! |

In SU2, the 2-D section area is used for the 2-D problem. The areas must be specified by the user. Even for an axi-symmetric problem, the area specified will be the area used by SU2 to calculate the coefficient outputs.

Right. SU2 only knows the area in the mesh. It is not creating a 3-D area due to the axi-symmetric boundary condition.
