Hi, i'm using SU2 for my thesis and i'm trying to do the optimization of a two element airfoil.
The purpose is to make a comparison between the FFD and the H-H methods and to optimize, with the method i'll choose, a particular airfoil for automotive application. Now i'm running the euler optimization and i can't understand why the flap deformation is irregular while the main airfoil seems to be good. Schermata del 2015-04-22 15:05:01.jpg

In the code, a classical implementation of the Hicks-Henne bumps is implemented. This implementation assumes an airfoil between 0 and 1 and at 0degree angle of attack. You can try changing this in the code (CSurfaceMovement::SetHicksHenne in the file https://github.com/su2code/SU2/blob/..._structure.cpp) to fit your particular case. Or you can also change your mesh so that both airfoils are contained between 0 and 1.

In any case, I would recommend using FFD boxes for the multi-element airfoil.
And compare FFD boxes with H-H for single airfoils.

You can find the optimal airfoil shape (minimizing the drag) but fulfilling a target lift coefficient on this website: https://aeroptimal.com/airfoil . The methodology is under review in journals. The CFD method employs OpenFOAM.
