Hi,

Thanks in advanced for reading my query and taking the time to respond.

I have two 3-D objects. The first is in an undeformed state and the second has has undergone deformation by applying a force on the bottom and on the side (red arrows).

- I know the material properties. Assume it is perfectly elastic.
- The object is fixed in at one point (the top, green)

Is it possible to calculate the stresses required to deform this shape form state 1 to 2 given the change in shape and physical properties?

If so, what is a strategy for doing this? Can this be done within ANSYS workbench?

Thanks again.

Sounds like this could be done with a static structural analysis. Use displacement boundary conditions instead of forces.
Among other results, you get the forces necessary for the deformation and the stresses inside the object.

Thank you for your reply.

To use the displacement boundary conditions, I assume I would need to identify landmarks on both the 3D models and calculate the displacement of those landmarks.

Do you know of a method where this could be done (semi-) automatically?

Thank you once again.

To be more specific, I have STL models of both states but they will undoubtedly have different number of nodes and triangles.
