Hi guys, I have been trying to import an IGES model from Autocad to ANSYS Mechanical.
The problem is that since the model is very large, I have been trying to divide the model in to parts and import it. Since these parts are connected, when I import the various parts, the volume generation is suppresed due to overlapping of the parts at the joints. Therefore only surfaces (areas) are formed. Can anybody help regarding this?? Thanks. |

The trick is in the definition of the planes on wich you import the iges.
Every external file is appended to a coordinate system on import. Make sure you create coordinate systems that have enough distance between them, and then import the geoms. Afterwards move the systems to assemble the original part. Hope this helps.

Hi Florin!
I am Adriana, from US California. Are you a strong Ansys user? I was just wondering. I am working for Aavid Thermalloy in San Jose, CA. I use a lot of Ansys products. I was just wondering what is your main use of Ansys. Regards, Adriana |

Hello Adriana,
Well I am using ANSYS for 6 years know, since I've graduated; in the last 2 years I have been using it daily for geometry clean-up, meshing, structural analysis and CFD (I have a Numerical Analyst job). May I ask what are you interested in?
