Hi,

I am a beginner at CFD,im actually trying to set up a simulation on STAR-CCM+ where in i want to create a simple cad model -block ( rectangular duct ).What should be the dimensions of the block ? mainly the entrance length (also the height, length and width of the block ) to get a fully developed condition ?

Later i plan to export the velocity and the other flow parameters from a line probe ( save it in the xyz internal table format )from the first simulation and export it onto another simulation and to get the fully developed flow condition rite at the inlet,so that i could save computation time for the second simulation ...i plan to run a les and also rans turbulence models on the second simulation ??

i hope im clear at defining the problem ...or if anybody has a problem, pls let me know ....this is my first post ....i hope to get some help !

thank you !

I guess, i've understood what you are trying to do. But what do you mean with "lenght, height and width of the block to get a fully developed condition"?

The width and the height of the block as well as the shape of a section should be similar to the inlet of the second simulation, otherwise you will get no benefit from the velocity profile.

The easiest way to get a fully developed flow profile will be to apply a "fully developed" interface condition. The flow out of the domain will be the same like the flow inside the domain, so you will get the same flow profile as in an infinite channel, independendly from the lenght of the channel.
