Hi,

I have one question about surface meshing. I created the surface mesh and tried to improve the quality by remeshing through "Remeshed surface -> repair surfaces" option. I smoothened the some portion of mesh. However after smoothening, mesh association with feature curves was gone (means the shape of the mesh changed. Initially it is in circular shape). Is it possible to reassociate the remeshed edges to feature curve.

Could anybody give suggestions for this? I know that I can remesh once again the geometry. However I want to know any option is available to reassociate the edges with feature curves.

I had a similar problem sometime back and could not get it working. Later I was told that the recent versions of STAR CCM+ have the 'Project to CAD' option which solves this problem. I haven't run into the same problem again, so I guess activating this option helps.

the mesh process is designed to be an auto pipeline starting with your imported surface. If you need to make major manual changes to the remeshed representation then pipeline is broken. You can delete your imported repr. and just use the remeshed surface, and create new feature curves on this (or export the remeshed surface and import it as a replacement import repr. Or be more careful with your smoothing so that feature curves do not move - they are there to retain features - I wonder why you are smoothing them?

Hi Aroon & ping,

Thanks for your comments. I am using star ccm 4.02 version. I checked "cad projection" option in repair mesh area. I couldn't find it. Could you point out the location where is that option.

Hi jsm,

in version 4.06 CAD Projection option is in you mesh continua > Reference Value> CAD Projection.
I think in the older version of CCM+ it was in the mesh continua > Models>surface wrap or thereabout.

Hi SKK,

Sorry for delayed reply. I am unable to access this forum for last few days.

I am using 4.02 version. So I could not see the option. Any way thanks for your help.

Hi jsm,

I just checked the Help file for version 4.02. CAD projection is in Continua > Mesh 1 > Models > Surface Wrapper

The option is in surface wrapper properties windows. In any case, make a search for it on the help file (or press F1) and you should be able to find it.

Goodluck!

Hi SKK,

Yes. In surface wrapper, cad projection option is available. But I am looking for this same option in surface remesher. Thanks for your efforts.

Look for it in Mesh>Reference Values>
If you still can't find it, then as I suggested earlier, have a look at the help file...

Hi SKK,

In 4.02 version, cad projection is not available in Mesh>Reference Values>

But in surface wrapper, cad projection option is available. However I am looking for this option in Representation > Remeshed Surfaces > Repair surfaces >

If it is available in repair surface node, then it is really useful to reassociate the edges with feature curves manually. It is not available in 4.02 verision. I dont know about 4.06. Ok. Thanks for your efforts.
