Hi all,
our research group just moved from STAR-CD to STAR-CCM (v. 4.xx) and we are wondering if there are more variables available for user coding than those (~ 20) stated in the user guide? I mean, STAR-CD had over 100 different accessible variables... Our specific problem: how we can get the value of a "passive scalar" at a certain position (cell number) at a given time (transient simulation)?? Maybe someone in this forum has some experience with coding in STAR-CCM and wants to give me a little advice? Thank u |

User coding also has access to all field functions. I think one of the sample cases shows how to access them.
You also should consider that you may no longer need user coding. Unless your code is very complex and you need to write it in C or Fortran to keep it manageable, there is really no reason to use user coding over user field functions. This way you do not have to worry about compiling and linking your simulation to an external library, and the entire simulation is contained in one file. |

Thanks kyle for your reply!
I already tried around with field functions and I agree that this approach would be much more convenient to solve my problem. As I mentioned in the opening thread, our prob is rather simple from the mathematical point of view, therefore no user coding might be necessary. But at the moment I'm not sure how to get even accsess to certain variables, like the concentration of a passive scalar at a certain iteration step. I am already in contact with the cd-adapco supoport and hopfully they can enlighten me. Operations which were possible to handle with STAR-CD 3.x should be no problem for STAR-CCM, or ?? |

CCM sometimes don't shows all fiel functions. When you had used them in a Scene as a scalar you find them in field functions after a refresh!
