Hello,
Do anyone know how to import CATIA v5 data into STARCCM+ ? In the manual it is stated to download a reader module for CATIA v5 but i dont get it anywhere. When i import CATIA V5 or any CAD data into starccm+, does the feature lines and curves are already created ?? |

For a "direct" use of CCM under Catia you need StarCAT (ask your support - when you have ).
With this "tool" you can make simple simulations with CCM. For the first try's that's okay. When you made the tutorial under Catia you should create STL/STEP/IGES or a other format files and this files you can import in CCM. Create the boundarys is quiet good explained in the manual (I think there was a tutorial for this). Think you need a "negativ" body, your simulation needs the body where the flow is in to make a calculation. With Catia you can use the boolean operators to create this body, very fast, maybe very dirty but works good. |

Maddin,I undertstand your method. What about using Import surface mesh. i have a option here to import CATIA v5 parts. Can i use this ? At the moment its not working for me.
My interest is to import a catia part and just surface mesh it.so i think this method will appropriate. What do you think ? |

In my CCM the Catia parts don't worked... I tried R15,R16 and R18 with my CCM 3.02.006 (or was it 3.06.002 I don't know...).

You need a third party license to import catia parts directly to StarCCM+. Contact your agent suport.

Of course, it works. After you purchase the CATIA native reader license from CD-adapco and install some extra libraries, it works perfectly.

If you actually have the extra license to import native CAD, the error can be caused by using a 64bit system.
I was also getting an error on my 64bit system trying to import a SolidWorks part file. But, when I tried it on a 32bit system, I didn't get any errors. |

when i was importing from CATIA V5 to Star CCM+, i have no problem. Maybe this will help.
In CATIA V5 you save the part with : Save As > NamePart.CATPart and also you have to Save with differece extension. Save As > Open the file type > Find .stp > NamePart.stp When you are in Star CCM+, import it with : Import > Import Surface > Open the NamePart.stp one and done, you have your geometry in star ccm+ But i haven't tried to import the Assembly Parts in CATIA, have anyone try it? If you have please let me know. Thanks |
