Hi,

My current project is related to induction reheat furnaces for steel slabs. I have been facing this issue for quite a while now where the recently released Finite Element Harmonic Balance model, suited for simulating magnetic vector potential faster in ferromagnetic materials, is not generating the expected amount of heating within the steel specimen after its curie temperature is reached (the mag permeability of the slab varies with temperature via a permeability field function that interpolates over a csv magperm vs temp table).

I even ran a simulation where I set the magnetic permeability at a constant value of 1.26E-6 (effectively nothing) which completely minimizes the hysteresis heating and should solely simulate eddy current loss based heating (for example in copper). But alas this sim showed very slight temperature increase over a long period of time.

Has anyone else tested out this model and whether it simulates eddy currents in no permeability regions (non-magnetic but conductive)?

Also, if the power delivered is to remain constant, do we maintain the current(in the excitation coil around the slab) at a constant value knowing that the inductance and hence the total impedance offered by the coil changes with changing permeability of the core (slab)?

The key models I am using for the slab continua are: Harmonic Balance FE magnetic vector potential, Ohmic Heating, FE Solid Energy. Eddy current supression model is not turned on for the slab but is turned on for the coil.

Here is the paper I am following, for reference:
Nemkov et al. - 2014 - Simulation of induction heating of slabs using ELTA

Also here is my perimeter plot for validation
