Hello,

I am defining an inlet velocity via the table method, and assuming star is capable of interpolating values as mesh density changes at the inlet. This aside, I am creating isosurface of the vorticity magnitude of the wake of my flow structure, and I can see a block, like in the image attached, that seems to be "sheets" of the table velocity values provided. I cannot for the life of me understand why these are showing up in a vorticity isosurface, especially since they should have a zero value of vorticity anyway.

Can anyone shed some light into this issue or provide any resources that could help me understand isosurfaces?

Thank you!

Hi Carson,

Could you upload the table.csv you're using and indicate, in a rough way at least, the set-up of the sim? It'd be of great help to guess what's happening here.

Best.

Hello! Thank you for your response!

Roughly, I am applying a piecewise defined inlet velocity gradient with constant velocity regions at the top and bottom of the domain and a linear shear somewhere in the middle. I am then implementing a virtual disk model along with some other models to observe how the wake changes relative to different inlet conditions.

In my post processing, I create an interpolated field or my scalar quantities with 300 points of vertical resolution. The inlet velocity table is created to match this resolution.

It it helps, I use a velocity inlet boundary condition for the inlet, and symmetry planes for each surrounding boundary.

I generally use my inlet velocity tables in csv form, but in order to attach it to this post I have converted it to xlsx.

In general, I am aiming to understand how isosurfaces work. I understand they isolate values of scalar fields corresponding to a given input. But what does say the "multiple(arbitrary)" option for them do versus creating multiple(range) with a fixed number of surfaces and a given range. And I am also hoping to understand where this "box" comes from in the image in the first post.

Thank you for your time and knowledge!
