Hi there, I am having a problem with the overset mesh. I am trying to simulate a train moving through a tunnel. The parts have been badge by 2d and mesh using 2D Automated mesh.

I have tried reducing the base size but the problem is still not resolved.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The question is clear, but where is the train and where is the tunnel?

The white or cut out box is supposed to be the train, the rest of the mesh its supposed to be the tunnel.

it seems to me that your mesh has 2 problems, at least from the pic you attached.

First the length of the region background is the same of the length of the region overset mesh. This doesn't allow the overset mesh to slide over the background domain. Either make the background bigger or the overset smaller.

Second the difference in cell size at the interface of the two regions (background and overset) might be too high. Try increasing the size of the outer cells of the overset mesh or decreasing the size of the cells in the background region.

The overset mesh can be the same length as the background. You just need to configure it correctly. The difference in cells along the border can be large. For this, there is adaptation by controlling the overset grid from the background side.

Thanks to everyone for their inputs. I have now managed to translate my train through the tunnel. Hope everyone has a great day.

Hello,
Could you please explain how you achieved that? I am getting the same error. "Failed to cut hole" in background region.
Thank you.
