Field Function or Macro function to find distance between points on part mesh?

I am working on a macro to compute an imposed heat flux distribution on a part based on a set of temperature probe points from experiment. I would like to use Radial Basis Functions to do this, and part of that method involves computing the distance between arbitrary points on the part and each of the known thermocouple probe points (and this computation will have to go into a Field Function). Critically, the distance I want to compute is the conduction path distance between two points on the part surface. If the part were a flat plate, this would be trivial but of course it is not. (It has such complex curves in fact that it's 3D printed)
So my question, is there a built in function or method in Starccm+ to accomplish this? Specifically, if I have the coordinates of two points on a part, how can I compute the shortest distance within the part solid or along it's surface between those two points? The closest thread to this question I could find is this one, from 8 years ago where the answer appeared to be no but maybe it was a feature Siemens was working on? |
