Hi everyone, I would like to run a position optimization study of wind around buildings. I am planning to study it with design manager in star ccm+ but i am not sure if it is possible.
To put it simple, i have a building of interest with neighboring blocks. I would like to study the optimal placement of the building by rotating it about the z axis at the center of the building. Remeshing and running again by importing new geometries would be extremely tedious. The geometries i am using are always imported as a surface mesh in .stl format. I looked up the internet and most of the tutorial are based on creating new 3D parts inside star ccm. Hence i am exploring the possibility of using design manager to conduct this study. Please assist. Thank you.

Hi,

yes, this is possible. You basically need to draw your geometries inside the CAD Modeler, give parameters to the dimensions you want to change so that these can be modified later by the design manager.

Hi SESP,

Thanks for the reply! Yes, i am unfortunately stuck at this stage. My geometries may be a little complicated to draw entirely on star ccm+. Hence, i would import it into the 3D-CAD Models. Afterwards i am unsure how to link the parameter to my geometry. Please advise. Thanks!

Ok, in that case have a look at the "Replace Part" operation. You can find it under Geometry => Operations. It is for the scenario where several STLs are prepared and stored in a folder and can be parameterized and combined with the Design Manager. From my understanding this could be pretty much what you are looking for.
