Default Conformal mesh between two Directed mesh

Hello STAR-CCM+ users,
I have a geometry which consist of a cylinder divided in three parts along its length.

Part 1: normal cylinder
Part 2: hollow cylinder (the fluid moves through a ring shape region)
Part 3: normal cylinder

Does anyone knows how to get a mesh created with the Directed mesh tool that is conformal at both interfaces?

I can't mesh the three parts in one operation. I can mesh Part 1 and 2 together, and I have to mesh Part 3 in a different operation. This results in non-conformal mesh between 2 and 3. Taking the source mesh from an existing mesh doesn't work.

I could do an Automated mesh across the 3 parts but I need the cells in part 2 to be long in the axial direction. Automated mesh cannot do that or I don't know how.

I'm assuming there must be a way to take the surface mesh between 1 and 2 and force that on the face between 2 and 3 when I mesh part 3.

Any help would be appreciated.

it's possible in directed but too hard to describe and not at all worth your effort

i suggest automated using the poly mesher since it will give you conformal mesh at the interfaces if you set it up correctly in 3d-cad with imprinting and parts and get the contacts correctly.

then enable the thin mesher to create the axial cells in the hollow are - might need a few trial meshes to get the settings working.

If you imprint contacting surfaces and create periodic "apply to mesh only" contact (not interface) between parts 1 and 3, use surfaces on the contact side as source for direct mesher .. maybe directed mesher will produce conformal mesh - and thus mesh for part 2 can be swept in directed mesher using contacting mesh (from part 1 or 3).

But in general ping is absoluterly right - directed mesher is not worth it.
I'd add - that it is still full of bugs and sucks a lot in general.
