Hi
I've been using star-cd/starccm+ in opensuse Linux since 2001 without any problems, at present I'm using leap 15. I have just purchased a new pc with an 8 core ryzen processor. I now find that I cannot load models thru the gui. I have to manually start a server process and attach to the server through the server window in the gui. Sometimes the starccm+ "core processes" will be running (viewed by using top) but no longer can the be connected to. I've also found that it is necessary to run starccm+ as root as only when this is done will the models come up in the server window. It has been installed in the opt directory and the owner and groups have been set to the default user i.e. me. I got so frustrated with this that I bought a second sds and installed starccm+ under windows 10 and everything work fine in that OS. I really do not want to use windows. Any ideas from anybody would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance allan |

When you start the server and client process together (starccm+ -new), will the client start and eventually just give you a socket error? This may indicate that your system/DNS has some kind of problem. If you use a terminal to ssh to localhost, $HOSTNAME, and your ip address as given by nslookup, do you get different result for all three?
If you install as you but first create the /opt directory and chown it to yourself, are there issues? |

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I appreciate very much your efforts.
I managed to sort it out it was a hostname thing. Starccm+ is running just fine now. Thanks again allan |
