Dear all,

I hope I get some help here.
I am trying to set up a simulation for a small combustion chamber (in detail only the first part with the injection nozzle and swirler is interesting) in STAR-CCM+.

First of all I explain, what I have done and achieved successfully:
  • designed my configuration (swirler + a few cm of the combustion chamber) in CATIA;
  • created the complement of it (so the fluid-volume);
  • defined my in- and outlets;
  • created an appropriate mesh;
  • defined my physic (simulated ONLY air as fluid for both - fuel and air inlet);
  • run the simulation
This all works quite well (see attached images to get an idea of my system).

BUT: I have no idea, how I can set up a simulation, where I can define two different fluids (air and fuel), which have different inflow regions.

This is my first main problem. I was trying to find some help on the internet or the tutorial guide of STAR-CCM+ - without success.

Later on I want to simulate the complete combustion (including chemical reaction, droplet distribution of the fuel, etc.).

The attached pictures are:
  • sytem - the configuration of swirler and combustion chamber
  • fluid - the resulting fluid volume
  • air_in - the regions, where air is applied
  • fuel_in - the region, where fuel should be applied
As I said, my first simulation (where I used Air @ all inlets) works quite well.
I need some idea, how i can set up 2 different fluids @ different inlets.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Michael

I can't help you directly on that, but just a heads up! Keep in mind that for combustion you'll have to be very careful which Turbulence model you're using!

To have closer results you'll have to choose a heavier turbulence model! I can't remember of my head now, but there are some turbulence models more specific for your problem!

Hi.
You can see "multi-component gas" option in physics model.

Hi,
I have a design of a chamber but i am not able to get the results required. I am failing to obtain proper pressure, turbulence and temperature. Also fuel flow is not happening through the fuel inlets. I have attached my inner chamber and outer chamber geometry and just a rough assembly image so that to give some idea about how it will look, it is a assembly which connects inner chamber with outer one. Please let me know if you guys have any idea of how to perform the cfd analysis on it and get the results.

Thanks.
