I am trying to run a volume mesh on a certain geometry part, so I established a domain around the part however if the wheel is too close to the ground of the domain, the part geometry itself is changed by the ground coming up to meet the wheel. As shown in the attached screenshots, there is no issue before the mesh however once I mesh it this problem arises.

I have attempted to fix this by making my mesh finer and increasing the total cell number as well as using a surface wrapper but this problem seems to persist. I would be really grateful for any advice as I'm rather new to this program and have been frustrated with this problem.

You should really try the Meshing Tutorials. The solution to this exact problem is shown there...

Use proximity controls or contact prevention in surface wrapper.
Refer this section of user guide.
Pre-Processing > Meshing > Surface Meshers > Surface Wrapper > Contact Prevention.
Hope this helps.
