Hi all,
I am a total novice when it comes to using Star CCM and I've been instructed to use it for a project I am working on at university. I am looking at the heat transfer within underwater objects. I have a cylindrical hot object (a battery or signal processing computers) surrounded by a thin layer of air (natural convection), then a very thin metal hull, then seawater. I've attached a quick drawing from Paint to illustrate the problem. Having previously calculated a given heat load for the central section, I need to simulate this to see what the surface temperatures are for each section are at steady state (assuming that the hull temperature is a constant 35 degrees - I'm presuming I'm not going to heat the sea up too much!). I don't really want to be told how to do it because I am doing this as a learning exercise, but I can't find any tutorials on how to do anything similar online. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance and please let me know if you would like any more information from me. Cheers, HHT |

I ended up finding someone to give me a hand implementing this in Ansys Fluent, but I thought I would leave it up since any answers might be useful to someone else
