Hello Everyone,
I am new to CFD and I am in the stage of performing in cylinder CFD simulations for a single cylinder engine. Basically, I have to simulate the flow through the ports. I have extracted the CAD geometry from an existing engine, as in copying all the inner surfaces of the combustion chamber, ports, seat rings, cylinder and the valve guide. I have managed to create a solidified part of it and then I exported a step file (as surfaces) from PTC Creo 2.0 software. Now the problem that I am facing is when I import this step file as a surface mesh and on activating check part's validity and repair invalid bodies, the output shows an error as CAD body is not valid. I maybe doing something wrong that I am not aware of. If anyone could help me, that would be awesome. Star CCM+ 12.02.011 R8 Thanks in advance |

For exporting from creo try to keep shell and solid both on. Star ccm is going to import surface mesh only. If this doesn't work then don't keep check for parts validity. And then check for errors in surface repair. Let me know if this works.

Hi Ashok,
Thanks for your reply. I tried exporting as surfaces and as well as solid along with shell option but still , on importing, it shows the cad body invalid error. To explain a bit more, for repairing we have 2 options as in Repair CAD and Repair surface. When I use repair CAD, I get 1 error for self interesting which cannot be repaired automatically. But when i use surface repair, I do not see that self intersecting Error. Any clue why I do not see this error in repair surface. As per this I am just proceeding without having the need to repair. Is this correct ? Thanks again. |

Yes you can proceed with intersection error.... Check for error in repair region..
