Hello,

I am looking at getting a computer for my simulation work. Something like 5M cell might be the maximum number of cells I'll ever have for my geometry (usually 0.75-1.5M). I am looking at running Eulerian multiphase cases (air-water-solid, water-solid) to DEM (1-2% solids for this) in an unsteady state rotating domain.
I need some advice on a super fast computer/workstation that can at least complete my simulations to maximum of one day (24 hr, a little plus or minus is acceptable, say 8 hrs is ideal)

I saw this specs:

Windows 10 pro 64.
500 GB Hard Drive
2 X intel XEON 5355,2.66 Total of 8 cores
16GB Ram

The RAM can go up to 32GB

Is this good enough or do I need more? Please, give your recommendation

Thanks for your help

Hi,

it's not 100%, but I saw somewhere (official CCM magazine or stg.) and as I remember, every million hexa cell needs 1 GB RAM, and every million poly cell needs 2 GB RAM.
So your example:
5 million hexa cells need 5 GB RAM
5 million poly cells need 10 GB RAM

So 16 GB should be enough.
But if somebody found the official recommendation, please write.

It's only the working with the model (e.g. set BC-s and materials), it's not the simulation time. I have no idea about it.
