I'm trying to simulate the induced velocity of a micro-UAV propeller operating in open air. I followed the exact same procedure in the Star-CCM+ documentation with a boat prop in open water but changed the conditions accordingly.

For the most part, the flow through the rotor makes physical sense but there are some strange velocity vectors that shouldn't be there. I've attached the following images: scalar scene of velocity magnitude; vorticity isosurface; residual plot; vector scene in XY and YZ planes.

You'll see that for the scalar velocity scene, I had to set the max velocity to 12m/s, but the auto max value is 51.6m/s. The vector scenes should highlight the problem best. Of course, we expect most of the flow to be induced in the negative Y-direction so I don't know where these large vectors are coming from.

Is it a convergence issue? I know it could be a bit better but I thought the residuals were acceptable.

no sure what you are saying here - is it that you dont expect to see velocities higher than 12 and why are they present or how do you change the display in the legend to set that max to 12
