Hello
I have a question regarding surface remeshing – I think I have understood the concepts of target size and minimum surface size, so I think my question mostly pertains to how StarCCM+ reports lengths measured using the “measure” tool: In <pic1>, you will see that using the 3D CAD functionality in StarCCM+, I created a rectangle of 2000 mm length and 500 mm breadth. I have extruded this rectangle by 500 mm. Next I remeshed (ONLY surface remesher was used) this geometry using a target size and minimum size of 10 mm <pic2>. So I expect that when I try to measure the edge length along the cuboid’s length, I should see 10 mm. (Correct me if I’m wrong but I think there will be 201 node points along the edge, with the distance between each pair of node points being 10 mm. Adding the distance between each pair will eventually give me 2000 mm edge length) This is not the case <pic3> – could you please explain why the measure tool reports an edge length of close to 16 mm when it should be reporting an edge length of close to 10 mm? Thanks pic1.jpg pic2.jpg pic3.jpg |

you are specifying surface mesh size and from my simple tests of both part and region based surface meshing in from the edges the mesh size is around 10mm but on the edges and these do vary quite a bit
if you want to force mesh sizes on the features then use that meshing option and set the size on the edges too when i do this the sizes on the edges are then a bit less than 10mm everywhere |
