species source in star ccm+

As a new user to star ccm+, I've been trying to figure out how to add an inert species source in a fluid. It looks like the species model requires that the source term be applied to a boundary (i.e., the velocity inlet). I'm modeling atmospheric flows, and would like a source placed in specific cells in the middle of my flow. Is this possible?

Define a region in the domain and release from there.(Read about regions in the doc.)
In ure CAD model, just build the geometry as usual except this time include a box in the zone where the scalar is to issued from. If you are importing from STAR-design make sure to imprint the faces before surface meshing. when in ccm split regions by surface topology and specify an in-place baffle (its the default anyways). mesh it, define ure models and sources and run Tom |

Hi Tom,
Conceptually, I get what you're saying. In practice, however, my problem is that I don't see what boundary condition type (wall, velocity inlet, etc.) can be applied to my source box that allows the fluid flow of the main domain to pass through it un-altered. Any advice on this is greatly appreciated! jef |

An in-place interface allows this, I know because use them. But first u need to define a new fluid/porous region to release the scalar from, so split by surface topology to save alot of effort and pain. Most importantly, read about regions in the doc.
