Help! Wots the function of Feature Line&Surface?

I am studying Pro-amm,and the tutorial always askes me to create some Feature Lines & Surfaces.I dont know the function or usage of them. Could someone help me?Whats the definition of Feature Line&Surface and wot are their functions?

Hi Deisler. Feature lines and corner points are used in a surface mesh to define sharp edges and corners you want to maintain in the mesh when using the trimmed cell mesher in pro-am. If you don't include them then your volume mesh will not retain any sharp edges or corners normally. Please read the meshing user guide for pro-am to get more details on them.
