Does the StarCd recognize a model that is made in AutoCad program? Can I import a model designed in AutoCAD in StarCd in order to make simulations?? Thank you a lot! Best regard, lelia

With 3D you have a few options, you can spit out an stl file and read it in directly to pro-AM then remesh and build. You can also use an IGES and go the pro-SURF route which will give you greater control over your surface mesh (more important if you are doing a tet/poly mesh). Finally you could use an IGES or a parasolid to go into STAR-Design and build you mesh and model through there....

As you've told me I have created a .stl file in Acad and I tried to open it in the prostar terminal window by modifying the requested extension .mdl to .stl. After I have opened it I received the message that the file is empty… In fact I use this information for my phD these and the faculty doesn't have the license for the STAR-Design only for StarCd. By the way what's the IGES?? Thanks a lot for being patient and for helping me! Best regards, Lelia

Hi,

The best bet is IGES format as suggested by Ben. All you have to do is first export the AutoCad model into IGES format and then import it in prosurf. There you can create a surface mesh. Save this surface mesh in *.dbs format and then go to proam and open that database(*.dbs) and create a volume mesh.
