I have loaded star-CD V 3.26 Windows 2000 OS. Through MKS tools X windows are activated through Hammingbird EXCEED. Solver - Star works. When prostar is launched after selecting OPENGL in the file under preferences, it just hangs with the command prostar glm. As a result I am unable to see the GUI display of pre-processor. If any body has this experience, kindly provide the hint. if it is bug, software vendors may kindly suggest some remedy.

Its likely that Hummingbird is not set to open automatically when sensing X activity. Try opening it before you start up prostar. You also might be having firewall problems. Try turning all your firewalls off just temporarily.

MKS tool is one where we activating x windows. I think this has to be loaded. Previous versions 3.24, 3.15A works fine. Some problems with star-cd v.26 connection with opengl problems. May be a chance can be taken under windows XP operating system.

It is not possible to run prostar without installing MKS. If you have never installed it before you need to get the MKS toolkit directly from CD-adapco.

I don't think windows included a firewall with win2000. I also don't know for sure if the latest version of 3.26 officially even supports win2k anymore.

I have tried by installing the star-cd v 3.26 under windows xp. I have also not loaded exceed nor activated x windows through MKS tool. To my surprise, star-design, design-post which are highly graphics oriented works fine. Even star solver works fine. Pro-star hangs without giving any error. But it looks all module works fine under linux operating system. May be I will try after some time.

star-design and design-post were written long after prostar and use graphics that don't require an X server. star is a batch process and doesn't do any graphics so of course it doesn't need an X server. Prostar is migrating towards that same goal but its still mks/X based. That's why prostar still needs MKS and an Xserver and won't work without one.
