Dear All,

Is it possible to export the boundary condtions input in Star-Design into Star-CD to perform a more detailed analysis. I am able to export the geometry and mesh. I run into problems when using Star-CD to input the boundaries. ----- Is is possible to analyse the forces on my model in Star-Design? - This is the reason I am exporting data to Star-CD.

Also, are there any useful website around that provide online guides to the functions in star-design?

Any information is much appreciated.

Any boundary region conditions that are applied in STAR-Design are automatically carried through into STAR-CD via the model file. Just do a boundary count (COUNT,BOUND) or turn on the boundary display (BSET,ALL$BDIS,ON$REPLOT) in pro-STAR after resuming the "solverun" model file to view them. To save the model file in the first place, select Solver->Solver Preprocessing from the main STAR-Design menu, and then File->Save when the first process is done (it will take a few seconds to write the files).

The post processor supplied with STAR-Design (pro-vis) cannot display the force data. Use pro-STAR and STAR-CD to do this instead.

STAR-Design is supplied with a manual and tutorials. Look under the Help menu in STAR-Design for more details. These will teach you all the basic operations you need.

Thank you for your response Kevin. I have managed to do what I required, however I have run into other problems. I seem to be getting errors: 1) Centroidal check failed (over lapping cells) 2) There are cracks in the model

The problem seemed to run fine in Star Design.

Also, whilst trying to run the solver regardless of the errors, there is no response. After the problem file and geometry files have been written, nothing else happens!

It looks like the mesh you have created is invalid in some way. Resume the solverun.mdl file in pro-STAR and use the mesh Check tools (Tools->Check Tool) to isolate the cells causing the problem. This will also help you determine which part of the geometry they are in so that you can go back into STAR-Design and review the mesh setup in that area. Its a good chance that the problem cells exist in the extrusion layer mesh based on the description you provided. Therefore try using a smaller layer thickness in the area of the bad cells. I would recommend you also contact your local support team for STAR-CD for further instructions on how to proceed.

further to that I would suggest that if you are planning on moving into pro-STAR that you do the tutorials first at the very least and preferably attend the basic training
