Hello everybody, I am new to starcd. how to calculate the mass flow average quantities at the boundaries(say inlet/outlet).Can anyone please help me?I tried loading variable(pressure),density, volume and area in different registers but here area values are not loading along with the variable.Calculation of area average quantities also would solve my problem.

thank you Regards Fred

select cells attached to inlet/outlet boundary and then make shell on that cell face where boundary lies. Then do Post>flux>pick shell ....as soon as the curser wil come on the prostar window , select the shell u already made on that cell face of inlet/outlet.

Dear som, Thank you for ur reply I am very new to star-cd so i am not finding how to calculate the massflow average value of a pressure at the boundaries. As u said how to put the calculated flux values (which is obtained by post-->flux sum-->pick shell) into the registers and manipulate with the pressure or any variable. Can u please explain me in detail?

Regards Fred

these r the following steps:

1. go to the tool pop-up menu

Tool> cell tool 2. select shell as active cell type

3. then add shell>surface(new edge...)

(add shell only where er pressure boundary lies)

4. load *.pst file

5. from vector field load Mass flux avg.

6. go to the post pop-up menu

post>flux summ> pick shell type

7. after this cross will come to the prostar window then select the shell u have already made on the pressure boundary.

this will give u the mass flux avg valu in kg/sec.

byeeeee

In NavCenter "Analyses Controls -> Output Controls -> Monitor Numeric Behvior" switch on "Print Iteration Residuals and Convergence Check". You will get your desired information in the *.info file for each iteration.

In star you have the possibility the write out boundary infos in a seperate *.erd file, or cell-set data in a *.ecd file.

with the command "pscreate" you can generate planes of shells, wich cut the mesh in a free/arbitrary location where and how ever you want.

with "pmap" you can map the values of the 3D-fluid-cells (which are cutten by the shells) to the shells.

BE AWARE: 1. when you map massflow the mapped value is really the massflow through the whole cell, respectivly the face. That means the value is of course greater for larger cells. A plot of this is not sensible/reasonable, because of the mesh dependency. What you want to know in a massflow plot is the massflow according to the area. 2. The coordinate system in the NavCenter "Post-Processing -> Load Data -> Data" is important for all vector velues, and the massflow is a vector.

If u want to calculate the area only then select the bopundary u want to calculate. then from Utility> Calculate area> boundary set u can get the area of that boundary.
