Hello,
what do we mean by Pressure based solver and Density based solver? what are the pros and cons of it? I guess star-CD V 3.2 is Pressure based solver and Star CCM+ is density based solver? how does this affect me? Is there any paper or journal or book to read about these in detail? For Hypersonic Compressible Flows , which solver is useful? Thanks, Xobile |

Xobile,
For Hypersonic Compressible flow you want STAR-CCM+, The little I know about CFD is that pressure based solvers were designed for incompressible flow field, constant density, where the Ideal Gas Law can not be used to close the system of PDEs. If you are below Mach 5, I would be comfortable with STAR-CCM+. There is a book Computational Methods for Fluid Dynamics Joel H. Ferziger and Milovan Peric which I find to be helpful. |
