Whenever I create a patch, it consists of 2-D shells. After I extrude the patch, the shells are still there. How do I get rid of the shells?

Also, can anyone offer any insight on vcextrude command? Can I extrude to a certain length with a desired number of cells along that length?

Cheers,

Ben

You are using star-cd for meshing? No wonder you cannot extrude your patch... Try ICEM CFD!

Star CD is all I have access to. My choices for mesh building are Pro-Star or Pro-am, which seem very similar to me.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

hi ben

patch command deals with shells only it creates a new shell within a four vertices you pass to it

vcextrude command is meant to extrude cells using the active cell type for the new cell layers thus if your active cell type is shell you will always generate new shells instead of fluid cells

if you do not know how the command works try to F1 key or type help command (help vcex in your case) when in prostar or read the manual pages in $STARDIR/man/commands/star_commands.pdf (depends on star version) for further reference on command use there are even tutorials provided by adapco in the following directory $STARDIR/man/tutorial/

First there is no need to delete the shells. They are ignored by the flow solver. However, if you want to get rid of them type

cset news shell

cdel cset

The vcextrude does just what you want. Type HELP,VCEX and look at the parameters. Its really not very hard

Okay, so I got how to extrude.

But I need to build a pipe, a regular round pipe with fluid flowing through the middle. When I use cylindrical coordinates, it has problems at the center where the cells come together. It was suggested to me to make a pipe without the center ( if that makes sense ) and then extrude something through the middle of it. This causes a lot of problems that I don't know how to fix either.

Anyone know how to do this, or a better to accomplish what I am trying to do?

Thanks

Do a search for "butterfly" in this forum and you will find what you need.

Save those examples in files and open them in the prostar editor. From there you can execute them.
