I have created file.elem and file.node file from ansys pre-processor. I tried to read these two files in STAR-CD using import grids with ansys option
ansy,file.elem,file.node I got following error message. ************** READING ANSYS ELEMENTS FROM file.elem READING ANSYS NODES FROM file.node ERROR ELEMENT 1 HAS AN IMPROPER NUMBER OF NODES (DOES NOT MATCH EXISTING DEFINITION IN CTABLE) 1 ELEMENT READ. MAX ELEMENT IS 0 6265 NODES READ. MAX NODE IS 6265 ***************************** element 1 has following list from ansys 1 72 73 3 0 0 0 0 1 1 1 1 0 1 Can you help me why i am getting such an error. |

I guess, you have to define the proper cell type in StarCD before importing the grid. The element looks like a shell with cell type 1. So the cell type 1 in StarCD should also be of type shell.
Hope that helps Cheers, Andreas |

thank you andreas, this has helped me to import.
one more question, does STAR CD retain the material type, element type of ANSYS in STAR-CD so that it will be easy for me to defien material properties and boundary conditions. |

As far as I know, the interface can only handle grids (cells and vertices). You have to redefine your properties and boundaries. I'm not sure if you could save the ansys properties as a coded file and import it into Star. I never tried it. I just use the interface to pass along the grid between Ansys and Star.
