Hi,

I have a question regarding the use of wave gauges and velocity probes. I'm currently running the tutorial with irregular wave propagation using the FNPF module, but have added velocity probes both using P 65 and P 66. When using the P 65 parameter I get different values than when using the P 66 parameter. I'm therefore wondering about the difference between the parameters P 65 and P 66.

In addition to this I have one more question. I understand that with the use of gauges and probes it is possible to to get the surface elevation and the velocity in defined points, is it possible to get the particle acceleration in addition to the velocity in these points?

I appreciate your help

Hi,

P 65 gives you the computed velocity, while P 66 gives you the theoretical value.

I don't think it is possible to get the particle acceleration, but I am not certain.

Thank you for your help!

I have one more question regarding the probes, when using the P 65 parameter I get a magnitude of zero (or numerical zero 1e-20) on the velocity for all probes while the P 65 gives nonzero values, which is the case. Have you experienced this before?

No, but I have not used gauges too much.
You could check the ParaView print out if there is in fact no velocity where you are probing.
If there is a velocity, maybe double check the position of your gauge. It could be that it's outside the domain, where it would only see zeros.
